Addiction -The Poem

Addiction- The Poem
--------------------------
I leave a scar, may heal , may not be
Addiction I am and be afraid of me
Relationships in doldrums
And denial becomes the norms
Wow ! I am powerful
Not one to be merciful
Wandering to find preys in different forms
Get youths to abuse and transform
Holding sway over senses, I play with brains
Illusion, delusion, delirium all in the game
I leave a scar, may heal , may not be
Addiction I am and be afraid of me.

Blood on my hands, whom to blame ?
Mercenaries  are out, there is no shame
Allowing youths to take on loopholes
Basking in ignobility having no soul
Signing death warrants, I wait and wait
Disguises are many,  I am just a bait
I leave a scar, may heal , may not be
Addiction I am and be afraid of me.

Oh! I hate braves  who dare to fight
I marvel at their courage and their might
Going to rehab makes me shudder
Framing their own opinion and fighting fear
De-craving process, keeps me on toes
I become victim , they heroes
Coordination, perception , concentration regained
Setbacks, bumps, pitfalls thoroughly drained
Spring season bring ecstasy to blooms
Enjoying new world banishing gloom
A new beginning has been made
I, the ‘addiction’ has been caged
I no longer then leave a scar
Ultimately they win, its bizarre
Ultimately they win, its bizarre.

    Force non starrer.
    Somebody is workaholic
    Somebody is prolific
    Some may prove good alcoholic
    And some are proven addicts

    As you find always
    There are ways
To find means with glimmer of hope
Even though it is walking on right rope

    Where is today’s youth?
Are they gripped in the yoke of death?
    If answer is “yes”
We are likely to face the Dark Age

    It is parental job
    That robs
    Youth of their legitimate right
    And forces to fight

    Upon failure
    They venture
    Into area of darkness
With no future of bright face

Dear Tribhawan Kaul Jee below is the poem that i wrote about Craving: (BAD) Craving (BAD) Everywhere it went No where can it go Without people following They are just sitting there Watching Waiting For this soul to slip up For most souls It needs to be done a few times But for this soul Its that first hit that gets it hooked Oh that taste That seals the fate Its not that the soul didn’t try The urge overwhelms and consumes A preying beast in the night Having no mercy towards the hapless prey Every time it plans to do something Every time it tries to overcome some hurdle It just goes haywire Not because of inability But because it slipped It slipped down Walking away would have been the best When it saw the first act of pour It should have said “NO” But instead it sat there and drenched its fate Giving up its life Wouldn’t it be a miracle if the family forgave For the pain and sufferings caused Breathing incessantly With a will to fight It just willed to say Pardon Me Pardon Me Wishing it could do it all over again To walk on a better path Questioning the very life Looking back Every one had told at least once See the reality and live the present Blinded was it so for no gain At thence and then The day came Futile excuses became lame Time for a change Time to be with the time For every new moment is a new gift And every gone moment is a dead rift Is it not true That Its never too late to be happy I think rightly So SWANSH.. Thanks . Yes I agree. The poet like an artist too brings some imagination to its works but with some truth which separates the two.:)

Though not a necessity, a poem largely works on images. it depends more on what we show and not on what we tell. we have to allow the reader to feel what he wants to and not force our viewpoint. Yes, message is most important.
By far, a poem full of verbs works more for me than pure nouns. I like the usage of metaphors in this poem. But then there are one too many.
What I say is constructive criticism. I believe you are a seasoned poet and hence know what to pick and what to lose.
Your poem is a lot of "tell" . I expect a lot of "show"
    May 29 at 11:56am
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
    Tribhawan Kaul
Yes..well said...but this time I want to 'tell' not show...I want my readers to wake up to reality....last stanza is for those who could come out of the stupor ....as a poet, I have to have some liberty...it is so nice of you to air your constructive views. Love that. :)
