I am a Delhi Woman


I am a Delhi Woman
---------------------------------
I am no more in cage
Flying with fire and rage
Freedom expresses my actions
No more tagging subjugation
I am a Delhi Woman.

Wombs no more silenced under duress
Moon, stars not afraid of the Sun’s ingress
Grace is the path I tread along with heart in motion
I love my body defining respect in HIS pet creation
I am a Delhi Woman.

Metro, DTC, autos make me explore and wander
Fashion, movies, hangouts craving rejoinders
Arrogant yet confident, feminine yet gritty in notion
Strong feel of self and I sail through men’s ocean
I am a Delhi Woman.

A real teacher Delhi and I am a learner
Tricks of the trade where soft is no tender
Poetry in stones of love, romance, passion
CP, GK, malls, wings of shopping imagination
I am a Delhi Woman.


Girl, wife, mother, I am embodied in these three
Empowerment, liberation writ large on my personality
Soaring high, I am adventurous with ambition
A Delhi woman creates opportunities for self with tradition
I am a Delhi Woman.

Determination personified,  holding fort,  I swing to top
Politics, corporate, sports, academic or crime fighting cop
Sky is vast and clear is my vision
I am a Delhi woman
I am a Delhi woman.

    Why just Delhi Tribhawan Kaul ji ! Aap Mumbai jao ya koi bhi town mein jao every where there are girls and women carrying with confidence. you can draw your analogy anywhere with girl of any corner in the world. There are girls in small town going to watch movies, eat in hotels etc.

    Agreed. Women empowerment has induced Indian women to come out of their shell with the advent of 21 century. They are fast shedding their inhibitions and taking the world head on. Though This is a story of Delhi women but in essence it is for all enlightened ones who till date were feeling suppressed. May be I have grown with the all round progress of Delhi once I left my own birthplace Kashmir in J& K State and have special affinity with Delhi. Thanks for your opinion. Thanks for reading the poem. :)

    It is good to see this. But I always understood Delhi women are always bold and strong within as they had always the exposure to be so. A few incidences will not take it away. from each experience they are gathering more strength. good poem :)

    If you saw the state of women here who couldn't cover their upper body and still now most of them are choosing to be the traditional way, either to please others or wanting peace around, you will understand what I said. It is our country with two different state. But there are changes ofcourse. everywhere. women like who lived and exposed to outside world are bold and open. thank you for the words on behalf of all of us. :) Pranam
